A day in the life of VP
Doing over 400 events a year does a lot to your objectivity on the law of averages! (Murphy is not on our Christmas list).

Some time back, we travelled to Davos in Switzerland for a super event for 80 delegates. Everything went smoothly, and on the final night, the Gala Dinner took place in a restaurant perched on the top of what must have been the highest mountain in all of Switzerland.

We made our way up in cable cars with the delegates and waited patiently outside after dinner to film their departure on 1-person sledges. Our master plan was this; once the final delegate had plunged into their guided sledge descent back into civilisation, we would hop on the "much more comfortable cable car" and film the arrival back at the hotel.

We were horrified, (much to Murphy’s delight, I’m sure) to find that the last cable car had long since departed and our only means of transport down the mountain was (yes, you guessed it) a lone single seat sledge which had been left behind.

By the time we had assimilated this cruel twist of fate we were left standing in complete darkness in what seemed like the coldest place in the world!

Being men of action, we promptly jumped onto the remaining sledge with our equipment and with the intention of getting to the hotel in time to film the delegates arrival. This we planned to achieve with our impromptu alternative route which would take us in a straight line, to the tiny flickering lights miles below.

So, all things considered – a single seat sledge, 2 x 90Kg gentlemen in tuxedos (weight includes champagne), 40kg of filming equipment, total darkness, a bobsleigh worthy route with 45º slopes and a complete lack of local knowledge, we didn’t do too bad!

Needless to say we missed the delegates arrival at the hotel by a mere 3 hours – but it must be said that this was mainly due to the fact that we overshot the village (some eye witnesses estimated at about 200mph) and hurtled into the evergreen valley below.

By the time we got to the hotel, we were a sight to behold, so much so that our lovely client did not even dare to reprimand us about missing the shoot. Although we heard some cruel giggles from the delegates, we were very happy that there were no evergreens directly in our cunningly crafted descent route. (Murphy did get a card that year!)
